Counting steps while travelling in a bus?

While I am travelling in a bus, the surge is counting steps. Also even when I shake my hand, steps get counted. This should not be happening as it reduces the accuracy. Any suggestions how to prevent the same?

This is a common problem for any wrist-worn tracker. They work by detecting the movement of your wrist and then trying to work out if that movement was the result of a step or just random arm movement. They sometimes get it wrong. There's more information on this - and what you can do to minimise it - in this help file:

Thanks for taking a break from stepping @VG2372 and welcome to the Forums! I understand your concern, adding to the information provided by @SteveH. You can use the option  "Shut down" in your Surge "Settings", while you're in the bus to avoid getting extra steps during that time. About the steps while you're moving yours hands and you;re not exercising, you might get a better reading if your wear it in your non-dominant hand and update your Surge Settings on your Dashboard online. You will find this in your  Dashboard, click on "Settings" and then on "Surge".

You will find this option on the Fitbit App under "Account " > "Surge" > "Handedness".
