Cycling Calorie Count

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've had my Surge for 3 weeks now and enjoy all the fitness features.  One thing I've noticed is that the Calorie Count seems way off when I cycle outdoors.  I rode 40 hilly miles on Saturday at a 15mph+ pace.   My Surge said I had burned 600 calories(about the same as an one hour hike) for the entiire ride.  My Cyclemeter App stated I had burned 2300 calories(probably a little high).

Has anyone else noticed this issue?

Hello @Adkduffer, welcome aboard to our community. Note that your calories will be determine by the intensity of your exercise and if you have a tracker with Heart rate sensor like the Surge, then your calories will be more accurate as it will read the BPM to determine your calories rate. Having this in consideration I don't think your calories are overcounted.

For more information, please take a look at the explanation of this post. I like to recommend this post from @SebringDon, when it comes about calories burned.

Hope this information helps, see ya later my friend.

The good thing with the Surge while exercising is that since the HR reads 40 or 50 beats under on a bike ride (Polar 150 average, Surge 100) the actual calories you burn will be much higher than recorded, so a great result if after that you still achieve your daily goal ! At least thats the way I try and look at it....
