Hi there @Ekimbilly, I see what you mean about the battery drain.
With the GPS feature the battery last around 5 hours, but if you prefer to use MobilRun to save battery on your Surge, you can find this option by going to the Exercise tile or the Quick Action button.
1. Once you tap on either of these two options, you will have access to your exercise section.
2. On the top you should see a Stopwatch icon on the right upper corner. Tap there and you should see now two options in the top. Log Previous or Tracking.
3. Press Tracking and a map will be display on your screen with your location. (make sure your GPS is turn on).
4. Here you can choose which type of exercise you want to track, you will have the option of Walk, Run or Hike and press Play to start recording your exercise.
(My screenshots are from the Android App, but the way to access here is similar to the iOS App in case you have this device)
Hope this helps, Catch ya later.

Hi there @Ekimbilly, welcome aboard to our Community. Note that distance is not available for all the exercises. Distance is available when you are using either the GPS feature of the Surge tracker or with MobileRun which combined your tracker's data along the GPS of your phone.
For the daily distance this is measure by multiplying your walking steps and walking stride length. Similarly, your running steps are multiplied by your running stride length. This will not necessarily match a pre-measured distance or what a GPS will display.
So in order to have distance you need to use the GPS of the Surge or the MobileRun on your app. There are several Runs and Exercises on your Surge tracker that allow you to track GPS. Other Run and Exercise options do not use GPS. For example, the Treadmill Run and Weights will not use GPS.
Hope this information helps. Let me know if you have additional questions.
