Elevation not recorded properly

Hi fellow Surge users!

I am trying to wrap my head around the function of the GPS on the surge. I used it to track my bike rides yesterday. One problem taht I see is taht the elevation gain / loss is wonky. Road Bike app showed the elevation up as 48 meter and elevation down as 13 meter. FitBit showed zero meter elevation gain, but the graphic showed a constant climb, which is true (I was huffing and puffing). Photos attached below:

Please ignore the difference in distance, I had forgotten to press start on my FitBit. This question is about how to track elevation properly using FitBit.

2nd question, related to tracking with GPS. The Surge has only 5 hours battery life with GPS, which is understandable for such a small and light device. Has anyone tried to track heartbeat from the Surge and used the FitBit IOS app for GPS logging? That would help a lot on longer rides or walks.

Thank you all for your suggestions in advance 🙂

Hello @ZafarSami, good to see you around. The elevation is read by the GPS feature of your Surge, so this is independent on how your tracker read your floors.

So saying this, if the issue persist I recommend to restart your tracker, since by looking at your screenshots, indeed it look weird it doesn't not show any elevation gain on your exercise.

So let's try this:

1. Press and hold the Home and Select buttons (left and bottom right) for 10 to 15 seconds, until you see the screen flash or start to dim.
2. Let go of the buttons.
3. After your screen turns completely off, wait 10 seconds and press the Home button to turn your Surge back on.

Down to your seconds question, this feature is called MobileRun and is pretty similar to the GPS built in with your Surge, the only difference is your battery will last longer. In addition this will work with the GPS sensors in your phone, MobileRun calculates distance, elevation, and pace for your walk, run, or hike. When the activity is done and you sync your tracker, you'll find all the data and a GPS map of your route in your exercise history.

If you wear your tracker while using MobileRun, the steps, active minutes, and calories burned that you see on your Fitbit dashboard come from the tracker, this includes all your tracker
'stats if you are wondering if it will track your Heart rate.

Hope this helps and let me know id the issue with the elevation keep persisting.
