Fitbit Surge Not Syncing without Location Settings turned on

Hi all,

Over the past week I've noted that my surge does not sync to my phone (samsung galaxy s6 edge) without my location settings being turned on-It hasn't required this before (I always leave my location settings off) so I am wondering if anyone is experiencing the same? Is there a way to troubleshoot around this? My phone recently updated as well so I suspect it is a result of that.

Thanks so much,

Helena

I would like to thank our friend @SunsetRunner for his reply that answers your question @redmessenger. Google changed the permissions for Bluetooth syncing, requiring the use of location services. For more information about the latest Google permission requirements, see Google’s Android 6.0 Changes document here: https://developer.android.com/about/versions/marshmallow/android-6.0-changes.html#behavior-hardware-id.

Please let me know if there's something else you need, I'll be honored to assist you 🙂

The Android app was updated like this a little while ago. The apps are not tracker specific and the Blaze needs your phone's GPS as it does not contain a GPS chip.

I am having the same issue.  I keep my location turned off to help preserve the battery.  I haven't found an answer on how to fix it.
