Welcome to the Fitbit Community @Kerry30. It's great to have you here. Your Fitbit Surge has a function to detect your sleep automatically. Information about how it works is shared in this post. If you leave your tracker on the side it shouldn't record your sleep. If you turn it off it won't affect your data and won't provide sleep records. You can either leave your Surge on the side or shut it down. On either way your data won't get affected.
Catch you later. ![]()
