Floors climbed has always been accurate when climbing flights of stairs until recently. In the last 2 weeks I have noticed it doesn't count one of my flights of stairs while walking into the building at work. Also, when I climb the carpeted flight of stairs at my sister's, it is not counted; but the hardwood flight of stairs is counted. Rebooting the thing does not help. Did I recently get a software update or something?
It has always counted a number of squats as floors and steep continuous hills while walking as floors. This is OK. Even when cycling, it records hills as floors.

@kran glad to see you!
Just to recap on how the Trackers estimate the floors climbed, this is found by measuring the difference in atmospheric pressure. Your tracker registers one floor when you climb about ten feet at one time. However a couple of things can affect the tracker's altimeter. For example a sudden change in temperature, strong gusts of wind. All of this can affect the perceived atmospheric pressure.
One more thing to check is if the sensor is clean. The altimeter gets the info from the little hole bellow your Home button on the Surge, check that it's not obstructed or dirty,
Let me know if the accuracy is improved this.
See you soon!

I keep resetting the floors and the fitbit charge 2 will not retain or count correctly. This has been going on for the last couple of months. Previously it worked for several months. Also, I cant always be where I can try to fix it again therefore I'm always loosing my floors count

I clean my fitbit regularly, a good cleaning weekly and wipe it down after workouts daily

How do you reset the floors? I tried on the dashboard with no luck. I have a surge.
lately mine says I climbed like 50-80 stairs. I wish!!
I know it counts hills as stairs and when I run in relatively flast Florida, I don't encounter many hills. it used to be accurate until recently.
