It's great to see that you've visited the Fitbit Community @Telliott01. Your Surge should bright enough for you to see it. Please try to restart your tracker. If this doesn't work, it could be a good idea getting in touch with Customer Support.

Need screen to be brighter. Can anyone help out? Back light isn't good. $250 you would think it would be easier to brighten.

Just got my surge and I have to say that I am very unhappy.

There screen brightness is trully ridiculous (and yes Edison I have switched it off and on).  I would contact customer support, but seeing as everyone seems to have this problem and the general tonic is get used to it, I don´t think I am going to.

The menus are rustic to say the least and I can´t wait for all the other strap issues and condensation...

I usually research stuff before I buy and this time I didn´t, so I guess its my fault.

The back light on the Surge is rediculous!  I can barely read it.  This thing is junk for $250.  Combine this with the strap issues and condensation, give me a break.  This is going back and I'll buy another brand with a better reputation.  Who on earth ever thought the light on this was ok?????????

@SpanishBob Welcome to the Fitbit Community! So you switched the back light option on the Surge on screen settings, right? Or did you turned the Surge off and then back on? (You should try that as well). What about the restart process? Did you performed a restart? That should certainly help! (check @SunsetRunner's steps). @plintner1

Let me know how it goes! Smiley Happy

Looks like the screen brightness has been a known issue on the Surge for a while now, any chance that this can be updated in next release? It is very dark! can't even see it. Just compare with the Charge HR - there is no such thing as reboot and it will get fixed.

please can you provide a better answer so we know if this issue will be fixed or not?

Thx so much! greatly appreciated the effort in really looking into this issue

The screen brightness works fine in a darkness which is what it's intended for. The backlight won't make any difference in daylight, it's not intended to (and doesn't need to in my experience).

I dont believe that to be true, particularly if you compare to the Charge HR which was much brighter day/nite and did not have to move it around to view it.
Trust me, those of us with not so great vision is even worst...it is not brighter enough which again, i dont understand why not if the other fitbit devices are

I'm afraid your belief doesn't change the way the device is configured.

The Charge HR uses a completely different display technology so behaves differently as a result. Each is configured according to the technology in use.
