I thought there was an ability to turn off auto sync. I think I would rather want to sync it when I want it to. I am thinking that it could be using up my data on my phone if it is auto syncing at work where I do not have WiFi. I also notice that some people in challenges have not synced in a number of hours. I cannot see what mine does so I am not sure what they see. I do know that at home (and possibly at work) that I will receive a message that I reached my steps when I didn't sync it. Can someone explain this?

Check on your phone under settings to see if all day syncing is turned on. If it is turn it off. But it will need to sync before it takes place. But anytime you open the app it should sync

Nice to see you here @ppalmeraz! That's a really good questions! As @WendyB explained you can use the option "All day Sync" that is located in your Fitbit App > Account > Surge. To sync continuously throughout the day. Or you can use the option "Sync now" and synchronized your Fitbit only whenever that you want. This option is located in the same place.
Your Surge will keep tracking your steps and it will vibrate when you get your goal for the day, but your Fitbit App needs to receive this information during syncing in order to sent you any celebration via phone. As a friendly tip, in case that you're using the notifications on your Surge. If you want to keep receiving call and text notification, you need to keep the Bluetooth "On" in your phone Settings.
In regards on Challenges, your Fitbit App will show only the steps that you had the last time that you synced your Surge. Please take a look of this information about how Challenges works!
Hope this helps!
