Incorrect distance in Walk vs Run and iPhone

Hello all.

I'm new to Fitbit and I own a Surge.

I train with interval running apps on my iPhone (RunDouble) where you switch between walking/running.

I started the Fitbit on Walk mode for my workout.

After I was done, my iPhone app logged over 5km while the Fitbit only logged 2.8km. Is it because I should be using the Free Run mode? Or should I be concerned about the equipment being faulty?

Thanks!

@vale007 do you know the exact distance you covered (i.e. was it on a track or a known route to you)? I would suggest doing a test of both (RubDouble app & Fitbit Surge) at a track for one lap since the distance of the track is a known length and see what each one says to determine if either of them are off. I personally have not had any major discrepancies between my Fitbit Surge and Garmin Forerunner 620 GPS watch.  They might show .3 miles difference at the end between the two, but based on the different price points that is not a major issue for me.

Thanks for the reply dkwatson.

I calculated my stride distances and updated that. I also have been using the "Free run" mode instead of the "walk" mode and my distance now match.
