Is this HR normal?

HI,

I've been using the Surge to track my HR.  I'm 44, 195lbs... not that fat 😃 I want to loose a few lbs.

My resting HR is around 62 bpm. When I shoveled snow in Winter, my HR went up to 170 and it felt fine.  My concern is when I took a casual walk to buy something, a simple 1 mile not-slow walk, my HR was in the range of 80-125, I would say most of the time it is around 90-100.    Even when I'm walking around at home, sometimes the HR would be 80.   I don't know this is considered as normal or not.  Any comment

Thanks

I would say it is a fairly normal range. Yesterday I took a 5 mile walk down a paved bike trail, and walked at a pretty casual rate, not being in a rush. Here is what my heart rate looked at during that walk. Not much different than what you are describing.

@Brake2Late I'm 10 older and heavier, so somewhat close, and in great cardio shape from fast cycling and spinning.  My casual walks are around 105bpm, and fast walks, say around 14 minute miles (over 4mph) my HR is 115-120bpm. Before losing weight and getting in shape the same walk would be in 140bpm range.

Once I lost weight and built up cardio from fast walking, I stopped losing weight because I don't like to diet. So my solution was to take up biking and spinning, where it was easy to push average HR into high 140s and low 150s for 60-120 minute rides. On those rides I'll get into 160s on 5-10 minute hill climbs and long fast (23-25mph) pushes on the flats. Those rides allow me to burn 800-1200 calories per hour, do that frequently and its easy to quickly lose 1-2lbs per week. Good alternatives are running, swimming, and rowing.

Your heart rate shovelling snow seems high, but then your fitbit is probably doing what mine does and indicating double the actual rate,

I've been tracking the accuracy, and it leaves a bit to be desired. On an hour long cross check with a different device, at the start of an hour long elliptical session it showed 145+ right at the start when warming up - the cross check showed actually in the 70's, coming into line with the other device at about 15 minutes in when my rate was around 135

At 44, your maximum heart rate is around 175, so if you were near that you'd know it 🙂
