Max Speed On GPS While Biking

Hey guys,

I've recently started riding a lot more and tracking them with the bike actvity. The surge seems to map the routes i take just fine but the distances and speeds are off, especially max speed! The different friends i ride with have different sorts of devices which track ours rides and they all seem to record simliar data for each ride, where as my surge is always inaccurate. I also did my own test with the starva android app tracking my route, simultaneously with the surge, around a mtb track. The app clocked the faster parts of the track at 55.4km/hr with surge topping at 36.0km/hr. This is a significant difference! Has anyone experienced anything like this or have any fixes? If a fitness tracker doesnt track accuratley then it is bascially useless (besides telling time). Ive started looking into other devices to replace the surge if i cant find a solution.

Cheers

I cycle and spin a lot, about 100-150 miles a week. I stopped using Surge while riding a long time ago. From my testing, Surge is best at walking and running.

Yes Ive had a good experience so far with most of the other aspects of the fitness tracking. But as i continue to cycle more i really want accurate reading of my progress. What would you suggest to track rides? I know there are alot of great cycle computers and gps' to mount on the bike but id preferably like one that cant do everything from my wrist (heart rate included). Having multiple devices seems unnecessary if i can find one accurate one.

I'd save some money and go with

- Garmin Edge 520 bike computer

- Scosche Rhythm+ HRM worn above/below elbow

I'd say "the best" wrist device, with HRM, is Garmin Fenix 3 HR. But triathletes like the 920XT because it mounts easily on a bike, and worn on wrist for swim and run.

Thank you for being part of our Community @flamindinky! I know how important your biking activities are for you. You can find the distance you travel on the top of your screen (on your activity section). As you mentioned before there is no max speed shown on the activities, I think that this is a good idea to include on the future, so feel free to submit it in our Feature Request board. I found an idea similar to your you can vote for it or submit a new one. Thanks for your help @bbarrera

Good luck!
