Most accurate run

Hello

Odd one but hope it makes sense. I have the Surge and I'm happy with it. Did my first run with it today using in built GPS.

The run tracked over to Strava along with HR data which was great however the GPS was way out. A matched run in Strava showed it as 0.3 miles out. The GPS showed me running through houses.

What would be the best way to track my runs?

Should I track in the Fitbit IOS app or straight through Strava as my phone GPS is more accurate?

Will this affect my HR data as I believe during exercise its tracked each second but only every 5 seconds out of exercise.

If I track using my phone I assume the display on the surge I'll just stay on the clock too?

Thanks

Chris

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @Chrisjbooth Smiley Very Happy! At least two dozen GPS satellites are constantly in orbit around the Earth and broadcasting data. All GPS devices, whether your phone or a Fitbit Surge, require a direct path to these satellites in order to receive their radio transmissions. If the signal is being blocked—either because you're underground, near many tall buildings, or as a result of atmospheric effects—GPS will not work. Thus, whereas GPS gives you a more accurate measure of distance than step counting alone, the actual accuracy depends on both your environment and the weather.

If you're running with your Surge and the GPS signal is lost, rest assured Surge will continually search for a GPS signal as long as the exercise is in progress.

Your Fitbit activities will appear on Strava, and your runs and rides tracked by Strava will contribute to your Fitbit all-day stats. If you're interested in exporting your GPS data from your Fitbit Surge to Strava, see Can I export my fitness data to my computer?

Keep in mind that the following types of activities won't sync to Strava:

  • Non-GPS activities
  • Previously completed activities
  • Duplicate activities—that is, if you already recorded an activity with Strava, a Fitbit activity that occurs at the same time won't sync.

Hope this helps!

This doesn't solve my issues at all. My phone GPS is spot on. My surge is not.

I've started a feature request. Enable connected GPS on surge.

that's not  a problem of code.

can be a problem of memory.

think about these devices don't have the same amount of memory as your smartphone or your computer.

in some cases, to add a functionnality, you must remove another.
