I want to use (put on) my surge when running only. 

 

- when i have the switch off, do i need to go to settings and switch off each time? (because when i do not i am seeing the heart rate monitor stays on)

- does it work in this way if i want to use it? which means the steps will not be counted ....

The heart rate monitor is always on unless A) you turn it off via the device configuration, or B) you take the tracker off and leave it on a stable surface.
