Suddenly getting very high steps and floors count

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've had my Surge for nearly a year, and it's tracking figures have been pretty accurate on the whole. But the last few days the step count has been artificially high - Sunday it said I did 16,000 steps, and there's no way it was that many, I probably did about half that.

The floors count has also been massively out for the last 5 days. It's already saying over 100 floors today, I doubt I've climbed half that, probably more like 25. Looking at the activity log, it says I climbed 17 floors late last night, which I am totally sure I didn't.

Any idea what could cause my Surge to suddenly start having such unreliable figures?

Hi B-Mike,

Did you workout what the issue was? mine is also doing the same thing, but with calories/active minutes. its only been since i updated the app on android, but i wouldnt have thought that would cause any issues as its showing up on my watch as well 😕

@b-mike @Cooky Welcome to the Fitbit Community! Your tracker count floors using an altimeter, which is a sensor that calculates altitude based on atmospheric pressure. Pressure changes due to things like a gust of wind, a weather change, or opening a door can occasionally cause your tracker to register an extra floor or two. Your tracker registers one floor when you've gone up about ten feet, which is the average between residential and commercial floor heights. You can delete any extra steps and floors by following @Rich_Laue's instructions on this post. Also, try @SunsetRunner's suggestions to restart the Surge

Regarding active minutes, they will count every time your METs are met. Intensity is the key here. Check this thread for more details. Regarding calories, have you changed any of your personal information? Also, note that the BMR (check @WendyB's post) is included in the total calories burned you see on your tracker.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes! Smiley Happy
