Hi!
I do hikes and skiing for many days in remote locations. I discovered that the fitbit tracker will not sync anything against my smartphone if there is no cell coverage (in remote areas one can often be days without proper coverage)
This is realy annoying since i cannot read out my days metrics (steps, gps tracks etc)
Local bluetooth sync between tracker and phone should work even if you do not have cell coverage (internet/edge/3G/4G) ! I can't see any logic in why fitbit has decided that internett on your phone is required to sync data trough bluetooth. If i hike for a week without cell coverage and use gps tracking i have no way of getting the data out of my tracker...

The reason 'why' is because your tracker isn't syncing with your phone, it's syncing with the Fitbit server and the phone is simply present to handle the call. I know this doesn't directly answer your point, but it's worth bearing in mind so that you get an idea of just how much change is required to start syncing with phones locally and then forwarding it on to the server later.
Anyway, all that aside, I believe that this is a frequently requested feature in the Feature Requests forum on this board so feel free to find it there and vote for it.

logic is to store all and compute data on Fitbit servers.
smartphones, pc, are only used to transfer data and display computed results.

I see. This explains at least why it happens 🙂
However i will vote for that as a future request, thanks for both answers!
I then have a follow up question... Is there any data on how much the surge actually can store when it comes to data and GPS tracks ? If I do not sync for a week can I risk running the internal memory full ?

Anyone who knows the storage capacity on the surge ?
