My Surge can barely stand gardening soil.
Seriously, something as simple as working in the garden on a hot day, as the dirt and sweat gets under the watch, after 10 minutes it has to come off as my skin is rubbed raw where the sensor and band lay tight on the skin. And even thought the face is pretty resistant to scratching, I've got a few from dirt.
Now, water hasn't been a problem. Ran the Nashville marathon this past weekend, everything was soaked but the Surge never had an issue.

Fitbit should operate normally within the indicated temperatures on the Specs Page. If it is colder than that, you may notice that certain features do not function as well, particularly the altimeter. I hope this answers your question!
