after restarting turning on gesture in the settings and syncing the backlight still wont come on,
If I set it to on it works, but auto the backlight never comes on.
Version 34.5.14.

Have you tried it in a dark room? From experience, it only comes on if the environment is dark enough to require it.

It's nice to see you around the Community @redstorm1! The back light option is on your tracker directly, you only need to go to your tracker's Settings>Slide up and go to "Backlight"> from there select "On", "Off" or "Auto", if you've done this already, try changing the setting (either Auto to On or On to Auto) and then syncing your tracker. The change won't take affect until you sync. If it still doesn't appear after the sync, try restarting your tracker by following @MeylinP' steps . The Option from account brings your Surge up to a viewing position to activate.

yes, in the dark it does not come on when set to auto.

Well my friend @redstorm1, since you've done what I suggested my best advice would be to get in touch with Customer Support directly so they can do a deeper investigation and see where the issue is coming from.
