I have received a Surge for Christmas. I have worn it a couple of times. The last time I wore it the battery ran out before I could charge it. I plugged it into the wall outlet to charge over night. This morning it appears to not have charged at all. This morning I tried to charge it from my laptop's usb port. I cleaned the connections with a toothpick and it still does not charge. The screen turns on when plugged in and the charging icon displays, but as soon as it is unplugged it shuts off. I've also tried resetting and powering it off while it is plugged in. Resetting doesn't help and it will not shutdown. Can anyone help? Thanks!

If the battery went completly dead, then or might take an hour of charging before the Surge will let you do anything.
As for charging, plugnit in, then place it down where you can see the screen without touching it. Make sure the charging icon shows

What percentage does the battery show when charged?
Surge shows the battery and the charge symbol, but the battery is active, as in, it will show empty-to-full when charged.
If this is your first charge of the device, then it is likely a RMA.
If you charged it before and the device had a normal lifespan, then you could be looking at a busted charger, bad cable, or even a dead battery.
Check to see if:
* Does Surge buzz when plugged in?
* Does it stay ON and does is show the charging state (battery next to a "zap" icon)
* Does the battery appear to be filling?
* Does it reach the end-of-charge state? (battery shows full, and the device hums shortly)
Did you drop it?

The battery icon does not have any bars in it. It did show bars in it when I charged it the first time. I have had it connected to the charger all day and the charging icon is present, but there are no bars in the battery icon.
I believe today is the third time I have had it connected to the charger. It was fully charged yesterday morning. I put the fitbit on in the morning and used it when I worked out in the afternoon. The battery was dead by the end of the day.

No

When plugged in it stays on. It shuts off immediately after I unplug it. The zap and battery icon are there when it is plugged in.
* Does the battery appear to be filling?
No bars show up. There were bars there the first time I charged it.
* Does it reach the end-of-charge state? (battery shows full, and the device hums shortly)
No
Did you drop it?
No

I contacted Fitbit. They suspect that the battery was over charged. I had charged it overnight. Apparantly overcharging the battery can damage it.
The Surge did come back to life for a few hours. I'm not sure how. When it woke up it said that the battery was at 100% charge. Within a few hours it turned off again.
I will say that the customer service was excellent. They are replacing my Surge and I do not have to send the other one back. I haven't received my new Surge yet, but I am supposed to receive it in the next couple of days.
Thanks for responding!

I'm glad to hear that, it's good news.
Yes, just like type phones and vast battery your fitbot battery can be overcharged. Fotbit does have charging control circuitry that should protect that. There are a few things i can think of, a defective battery, or charging circuitry, or pushing to many amos in it for to long. Thos could overheat the battery causing internal damage.
