Hi I have had my Surge for over one year and never been able to get texts or use the notification for being active (250 steps per hour). Would love to use both features.
I have checked notifications - I don't see any settings I can change.
I would appreciate any step by step (no pun intended) directions to get it do this.
thanks

I have a Surge, and I don't think giving the 250 step notification is one of the features.
As for getting texts, I suggest Googling Fitbit Surge Manual and reading the directions closely.
It may help to delete the Fitbit app from your phone and downloading the latest one from Google Play.
Hope this helps

Hope you're having a great day guys! Nice to see you here @GershonSurge thanks for the help.
@BarbsGC I was checking computability for your Samsung Note 3, but I noticed that it is not listed on the official list of compatible devices that connects with Fitbit products. That means that you have the option download the Fitbit App, but Fitbit can not assure that all the features will work flawless because the device is not totally compatible.
You can try to these steps to connect your text notification to see if this works, but email is not something that is currently showing the Fitbit Surge; the same for the Reminders to move feature. I found a request in our Feature Suggestions board that you might like: Reminders to Move for Surge and Charge HR and More Notifications.
You can vote and comment. This board is constantly being reviewed by our devs to make sure we are delivering on what our customers need. Fitbit is always striving to improve!
I'll be around!
