Hi,
I got my device yesterday and I easily synced it with my Samsung Galaxy S6. However, I just cannot seem to sync it with my Thinkpad using Fitbit app for Windows 10.
If I try to use my laptop's bluetooth, it does not detect my device. Even when I try to 'search' for it, I get a whole bunch of nearby devices - laptops, mobiles but not Surge.
When I switch off my laptop's bluetooth and instead try to sync using the dongle it came with, a message pops up: "Sync your fit bit. Bluetooth is either turned off or not available in your device. Please turn Bluetooth on or insert the Fitbit Wireless Sync Dongle into your device to begin syncing your Fitbit activity tracker into your account." (the dongle was plugged in already).
I click on "Start Syncing" and another pop up appears.
"In order to sync, please make sure to uninstall Fitbit Connect or other apps that are trying to use Fitbit Base Station." [I never installed Fitbit Connect and I don't know any way of finding out if there is any other app trying to using Fitbit]
Kindly help!

Just a question... Have you insure that the bluetooth on your S6 is OFF, and then tried?
I've had similar problem on occasion - though usually I can't sync with my S6 because I have forgotten to turn off the bluetooth on my Windows 10 laptop.

Hmm.... Now I'm seeing an issue, and something wacky going on. I see the Surge is connected in Bluetooth, but the app cannot find the tracker.
Even attempting to add a new tracker isn't working. It believes bluetooth isn't on, when I can see "Surge" is connected in the notifications panel.

I'm receiving the same error message on my Windows 10 desktop with the app installed. I did have Fitbit Connect on that system but uninstalled it. No go. Removed the Base Station and reinserted the dongle to reinstall, same error. Turned off bluetooth on phone, same error. Won't let me sync my Alta nor do the firmware update.

Am a new user. Few days ago I contacted fitbit support and recieved below response quote:
Microsoft recently confirmed that the protocol that allows Bluetooth communication between devices is under development and will be available beginning later this year. For more information, please visit: https://wpdev.uservoice.com/forums/110705-universal-windows-platform/suggestions/7176829-gatt-server....
We don't have an estimated time of release but, we will keep you informed as soon as we have more information. You can always find the most up to date information concerning the Windows 10 app on our Community site: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Windows-10-App-Windows-Phone-App/bd-p/winphone
We appreciate your patience and look forward to improving the Fitbit experience on your Windows 10 mobile device.
If you are using a mobile device running Windows 8.1, please note that we will continue to support the Windows 8.1 mobile app with security and support updates, but will not provide new features such as notifications. If possible, we recommend upgrading your mobile device to Windows 10.
Regarding with the steps on how to use the Music control of your Surge, please check the article listed on this link http://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1976/?q=music+control&l=en_US&fs=Search&pn=1

I contracted micrsoft and they too haven't responded. Even the sleep tracker doesn't work well on Windows application... So sadly, wait and watch with not plaussible solution in sight.

Hello!
I had the same issue with trying to update my Blaze using my Windows 10 laptop.
The way I got around it was to activate the "Bluetooth Classic" option on the Blaze in settings, and then paired it.
It worked right away!

Can't update and synch up time using laptop. Update repeatedly returns "In order to sync, please make sure to uninstall Fitbit Connect or other apps that are trying to use Fitbit Base Station". I can't find such app on my laptop. I tried "Sync Your Setting" (Lenovo, Windows 10), it didn't help.

To resolve sync errors with Windows 10 you can try many solutions but the one I would like to recommend you are to delete the email account then add it back. You can do it by tap Start, Type Mail in the search field box, Click the Mail app to open it that is at the bottom of the left pane, so now press the Gear icon, and pick the option that says Manage Accounts. Read a lot more about sync issues and their solution from https://appuals.com/how-to-fix-sync-is-not-available-for-your-account-error-on-windows-10/ whenever you like. Select the account you need to delete. Pick Delete account from this device and at the end add the account back again.

Your instructions have nothing to do with syncing a Fitbit. Those are Windows sync settings.
