For the past week I haven’t checked my activity on my iPhone but this morning it appears that my Surge starts to sync but then stops suddenly half way through and I have no data recorded since Friday 13/4 other than the 39 steps since waking up this morning.

Thanks for those details, let me give you a hand with that. Please turn off your phone a couple of minutes and then check if your Fitbit App is up to date, restart your Surge and try to sync it again. If issues persist you can try the steps in this post.
