New user to Fitbit Surge and Macbook Pro, double trouble!
Macbook pro is running OS X El Capitan V10.11.2
I am only trying to sync my fitbit surge with a macbook. I do not have a mobile.
I installed the Fitbit connect software and an account has been set up.
When I click on the Fitbit connect icon (at the top of my screen on the right hand side) then click sync now I initially get the message "Searching for fitbit tracker Make sure its close to your computer" followed by Not working and an option to try again.
Ive tried many times but no luck. The tracker is sitting right next to the dongle. Couldnt be any closer. Ive tried moving the tracker around the computer but still no luck.
Ive rebooted the computer, and Ive uninstalled and reinstalled the fitbit connect software, still no luck.
I also reset the tracker by holding down the left and bottom right buttons but again i still couldnt get it to sync.
Help dont know what to do next?
Thanks

Hello @RandG welcome to the Fitbit Community! It's great to have you here. 🙂 Are you still experiencing this issue with syncing your Surge using your Macbook? If you are have you checked if the Dongle is being recognized? If the Dongle is not being recognized, you can try to unplug it, restart Fitbit Connect and plug the Dongle back in. This should get you back on track!
I'll be around if you have any questions. 🙂

Is the dongle required? I'd prefer to use the BT built into the laptop vs carrying the dongle around.

I made the same mistake and I thouhgt that I could just transfer data from my fitbit directly to my Macbook using BT. Apparently that is not the case and a special dongle is required (for no actual reason as far as I can tell...). Usb connection does not work either with fitbit connect app.

Hey there @SunsetRunner, it's great to see you here! Welcome to the Forums @twitrock! In regards of your inquiry, the answer is yes, a Wireless Dongle is a requirement; since you're going to be using the Fitbit Connect program. This type of portable computers are not compatible with the Fitbit App, so in case that you want to use the BT built into the laptop, it won't connect.
For more Setup instructions using Fitbit Connect, you can use the steps in this master post.
Hope this clarifies your question, I'll be around!

I can't sync my Surge with my MacBook Pro, either with the wireless dongle or with the cable. I got it to sync once, the first time, with the dongle. But now it just says "Searching for tracker" again and again forever. The tracker is charged and right next to the BT dongle, and the Fitbit menu icon says "Dongle found".
I saw messages here saying the USB cable could work. When I plug the Surge into my Mac with the cable, the Fitbit menu icon says "Surge connected", but it still will not sync. It seems to be trying to sync via bluetooth, because it won't sync unless bluetooth is on, even though I want to sync through USB. If I turn bluetooth on, it again sits there "Searching for Fitbit tracker" forever...even though the tracker is plugged in and the menu says Surge connected! So frustrating!!!

Hi @hearthkid! Please receive a warm welcome to the Fitbit Family! It's great to see you participating in our Community!
Thanks for trying those steps! Please restart your Surge, if you're not sure that the restart went through the first time you can try it again; then sync it again via Fitbit Connect but this time turn the Bluetooth off if you're using the Wireless Dongle.
Keep me posted!
