error 500 trying to swap Surge devices

My old Surge is a bit of a mare for charging -  the cable drops connection - OFTEN.

 

So I bought a bargain preowned Surge and as I cant have two surges on the same account I am trying to swap then - as per directions.

 

Get through the pairing between surge and phone but when connecting to fitbit server am getting the "infamous - com.fitbit.HTTP error 500"

 

any suggestions would be appreciated.
