surge step count ridiculous

Hi. I recently bought a Surge and the step count is just silly. It does the following

1. Counts 1000+ steps per hour when sitting down playing cards (and any similar activity)

2. Counts several hundred steps when I'm sleeping

3. Counts several thousand steps when tracking a cycle ride using start exercise/bike.

As a result of this the step count, daily activity time and calories are all totally useless. I've tried changing to Dominant wrist in the phone app and resyncing and this makes no difference.

Is there any fix to these issues before I take it back to Argos? If the Surge is just fundamentally flawed then is the Alta HR any better?

Thanks

Funny, I find the Surge way under counts my steps when cycling.  It will autodetect that I'm cycling if I didn't turn on the cycling feature in the track exercise feature.

I have both a Zip and a Surge and the Surge typically lags behind the Zip in step count, especially on a treadmill even if I'm not holding on to the hand rails.
