Accuracy of calories burned (Example)

Hi everyone,

I had my fitbit for about a month now and am happy in general, but sometimes wonder how accurate the calorie burning is. I have paired my Fitbit with Myfitnesspal, where it gives me extra calories that I can eat throughout the day considering how much I move.

I generally walk to work and back every day, which is roughly 30 minutes per way (and 10 minutes on the tube which fitbit seems to still log as workout). Yesterday evening I walked to the tube (10-12 minutes) and home from the train afterwards (about 15-17 minutes) which fitbit logged under Exercise as 41 minutes, and 182 calories burnt (which seems a little high to me).

This morning, I was running a little late and shaved about 5-7 minutes off the walk by taking the bus. I walked about 3000 steps instead of the usual 4000 per way, but it only shows 37 calories burnt for a walk that was not sooooo much shorter than usual. My pace is about the same every day, maybe a tiny bit faster today as I was running late.

How is this possible?

Thanks so much,

Nadine

Hello @Nadine1301, welcome to the Fitbit Community.  Note that with calories it depend of many factors that will determine if you have a high rate of calories burned. Your tracker will detect subtle differences in exertion that may explain why two seemingly identical activities result in different stats totals.

This post shared by @SebringDon will provide more help. Perhaps will give you a different perspective about calories.

If you believed your calories seem to be off in comparison to the exercise you are doing, try with a restart. I saw on your Community profile page you have a Charge 2, so the following steps will guide you through this process.

See you around and let me know how it goes.
