Fitbit and MyFitnessPal syncing activities

Hi folks -

Recently got a fitbit charge HR. Have been using myfitnesspal for a while to log food/calorie intake and usually logged workouts on there too. Anyhow, have done a bit of reading on the message boards regarding the best way to integrate MFP with my fitbit and have found some conflicting information/advice.

My takeaway, which I'm unsure of, is that unless I've done a step-based workout - like running or walking - I should log the workout/calories burned via MFP because the fitbit won't really be super accurate for those other exercises.

Now, if I am running, say on a treadmill, do you folks typically use the stopwatch/timer button on fitbit to notify it that you are working out? If I log the run via MFP with the time and the calories burned, it deducts those steps taken from my step total for the day, which seems kind of silly since I've still actually taken all those steps while running.

I guess I'm wondering how I should log my step-based workouts (running/walking) since my plan was to continue to use MFP for things like lifting weights.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @Seedninja! It's great to have you here! The data recorded with your Fitbit Charge HR will sync directly to your Fitbit account and it won't be necessary to manually log it at MyFitnessPal. All other information can be logged there. However, if your tracker is not recording your steps accurately while on the treadmill, it is recommended manually logging the activity either through Fitbit or MFP.

You can find in the screen shot below, what information will sync between your two accounts.

Activities recorded using the exercise mode will sync to your Fitbit account and show under Activity tab. Hope this clarifies your questions. I have moved your post to the Third-Party Integrations board because it is more related to this topic. Thanks for stopping by, see you around! Cat Very Happy

Thanks Edson. I'll give the exercise tracker a shot on the fitbit for the step-based workouts (like running on a treadmill) and see how it does for calorie spend. I guess if it's off I can always just log it on MFP like I would a non-step-based workout.
