Finally got the response after contact with google Fitbit on phone, because google revoqued access to third party apps, it will not work anymore! Shame, Fitbit was a good option with some good Google watch for my health but the sport community sucks for what Strava was usefull alongside! It will force me to suspend my Fitbit account and even not go for the new pixel watch 3... Why do they open the doors on the start and close them after ? I'm really dissapointed  by google and hope they will change this so that we can still use their app for health and can have the choice for the rest of our sport third party apps, which IS not google main subject! Or do better than Strava but hurry!

From a users perspective, our only option is to revoke access to Strava and then set Strava up to sync.

not better! Nothing links to Strava!

It's not just you. Various accounts of this happening around the place. Seems to have started around the 8th of January when they last pushed out an update.

Been broken for me since Jan 6, 2025. Nothing I have tried works. Reinstalled. Broke and recreated the links between Strava and FitBit. Restarted the devices.

The technique absoluitely and completely failed was attempting to enlist support from FitBit. They fobbed me off to Strava Support without any evidence, whatsoever, that they attempted even the most rudimentary of root cause analysis. As such, I have no evidence from FitBit that I can take to Strava and say: "Hey Strava, here is the diligent work that FitBit support engineers did to show me the problem lies fairly and squarely in your court". I have no such evidence because FItBit couldn't be bothered to provide any,

Same for me, after many years of syncing my Charge 5 to Strava... and, **ahem**, I just paid my annual FitBit Premium fee... so they have my money, with zero support for that fee.  So I'll drop my FitBit, cancel my account, and find a better device that syncs with Strava without such awful customer service.

@BrBnHunt have you revoked access to Strava, and then setup the link? If this doesn't work, you'll need to contact fitbit. The Strava link is one of to two the Fitbit manages.

PS: You don't need premium for this to work

Thanks @Rich_Laue , appreciate the feedback. Yes, I’ve tried multiple times to revoke and reset. Uninstalled both apps and tried again. Then revoked and tried reset from a pc browser. I’m a heavy walker and go on multiple 1-2mi walks each day and so I have a ton of failed test samples since early Jan that continue today. I’m aware that I don’t need Premium for this to work… I was merely complaining that the annual fee continues to increase while these gaps increase and frustrate. Unlike some others, I’ve had success doing manual TXC file uploads, but that is silly when it used to be automatic… so I’m not motivated to keep doing it. Time to change device… not an Apple Watch fan, so I may try Garmin. Sadly, the Oura ring doesn’t count steps! That ring merely does some wacky calc/projection of your steps 🤦🤷‍:male_sign:.

Like mentioned above, contact fitbit.

I checked my Strava, and see a run and 2 bike rides recorded by my two brothers. They all contain heart data proving that they where recorded by fitbit

I have had these problems with my FitBit Sense since Jan 6, 2025.

Like you, I revoked access to Strava and re-established the link.

Like you, it made no difference.

Yesterday I bought a Garmin 965 to replace my malfunctioning Garmin Swim 2.

The experience was a dream - the very first attempt to sync an activity worked with ZERO intervention by me.

Clearly the problems with the FitBit -> Strava sync path are UNIQUE to the FitBit path but since FitBit support had abdicated all responsibility - even the very, very first steps of root cause analysis - we will never know why this circumstance UNIQUELY plagues FitBit devices BUT NOT garmin devices.

The Garmin 965 doesn't have the AF detection feature of my FitBit sense, but then since I have been in permanent AF since about 2-3 weeks after I purchased my FitBit Sense in March 2023, the capabilities of the device are somewhat lack lustre. From a day-to-day perspective even the "Stress" feature of the feature-deprived Garmin Swim 2 is much more useful to me than the ECG feature of the FitBit Sense (how many times do I need to be told that I have permanent AF - tell me something I don't know). The Garmin 965 has minute level HR, stress and body battery data scrollable on the device itself - that is very cool.

But none of this changes the fact that FitBit needs to stand up and offer a solid root cause analysis for the failure of FitBit to sync with Strava - even if the problem is entirely Strava's fault they need to man up, tool up, and prove that fact and not leave their customers completely up a malodorous creek without a paddle.

If it's Strava's problem - PROVIDE THE EVIDENCE.

Quit it with these pathetic - IT IS NOT OUR PROBLEM - posturing until you PROVE that it is not your problem.

UNTIL YOU PROVE IT, IT IS.

You have the data, construct the proof.

Otherwise, stand condemned of being lazy or otherwise incompetent

PROVE IT - that's all you have to do.

PROVE IT.

Contacting FitBit simply does not work - you get palmed off to Strava Support who does not do a thing either.

Both corporations need to take the proverbial finger out of the proverbial wrong place and sit down and take the very first steps of root cause analysis.

Until this is done - NOTHING CHANGES.

This makes no sense and seems to be quite the copout answer from Google. For me personally, Fitibit and MyFitness apps (MyFitnessPal), Zwift (never has maintained long term) are still synchronising data quite happily (activities, calories, weight etc). Also Garmin, Zwift and other systems/apps are quite happily synchronising data through to Strava.

The issue still appears to have started for everyone (affected) with the early January Fitbit app update which still points to either a bug or an intentional act potentially due to Strava's update on how third parties can use Strava user's data. Even if done as a protest that's extremely petty and has only been to the detriment of Fitbit users. Alternatively is it certain devices it is impacting or if there is a specific thing that ties those with issues altogether. Is this just a conspired act to get users of older devices to buy something newer? Tin foil hats all round please.

Regardless, I've been thinking about getting out of the Fitbit ecosystem for a while. Combined with the shutdown of the desktop dashboard, ruining the historical weight graph interpolation and trending averages, this latest month long debacle has sealed my desire to get out.
Goodbye Fitbit you were good once upon a time, it sucks that Google is wrecking (has wrecked) you.

What doesn't quite gel for me about this explanation is that the FitBit App displays Strava as being a connected app and if you go through the de-register, re-register waste of time, you can do that at no time is any message displayed indicating that this is a waste of time. If they literally have severed the relationship with Strava, why on earth does it even allow registration to occur?

One recent non-response I got from FitBit support stated:

"Just so you know, Strava is primarily used to track cycling and running exercises. Also, Strava exercises that are synced with Fitbit are labeled as a manually logged activity. Only GPS data recorded with a Fitbit device is synced to the Strava app."

Which is a bogus explanation because I have been recording walks with FItBit and syncing them to Strava since 2018.

There was no mention in that response of a withdrawal of support for syncing with Strava by FitBit.

Totally feel the same about everything you've said. My wife and I both have fitbit versa 3 watches, hers has stopped syncing automatically to strava, but mine hasn't ! Agree that the app isn't what it once was and Google have ruined it. Tata fitbit...
