Same run, confusing data

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

The pic below is the same run. Knowing the route the 7.04km is about right. The split gives times for kms not completed and the strava data is derived from the fitbit.

Can anyone explain the variance?

@Jonno34 It's nice to see you on the Community. Thanks for the screenshots shared.

I appreciate the details mentioned. Based in what you mentioned, it seems that your Fitbit GPS activity synced to Strava but it's showing different data. In this case, I would like you to unlink both applications and then link them. After this, please track another activity and check if the data shows correctly.

Let me know the outcome.

@Jonno34

Fitbit uses GPS to show the track on the map while calculates the distance with an algorithm that has at it's core the stride of your steps (in few words it measures the distance as steps x stride). When you export the session to Strava instead Strada takes the GPS file and adds some.proprietary algorithm to compensate (aggressively I would say) the GPS errors.

Hence the difference of the measured distance, splits and so on.

Unlinking the two services and relinking them as suggested by @SilviaFitbit is actually useless.

I have a similar issue with syncing to Endomondo - I use my Ionic to track all runs, and it syncs to Endomondo, which I like as it gives a clear weekly run history and personal best records. Distance and maps come across perfectly, but the time is always greater in Endomondo. Usually, 4 or 5 minutes, sometimes as much as 7 or 8 on a long run, which is frustrating, as Endomondo's PB alerts are great - provided the data is correct! Any suggestions?

@SilviaFitbit  Now done a few runs but have the same problem.  This morning my regular 5k over a distance and course that has in the past been reliable.  Ionic 5.05kms Strava 4.95km.  This means I get no reliable 5km comparison.  Strava would normally give achievements  2nd fastest 5k etc but it cannot as it seems to think I have not done the 5k.  It would not be so bad if the Fitbit data gave you the stats that strava does but if I want to look at how it compares to other runs I have to do it manually.

I suspect that because I spent 6 weeks of lockdown running a twisty track round my garden using a shorter stride I have confused the stride length calculation?

@SilviaFitbit Anything?  Strava is the app that measures my PB/PRs and it is not doing it because there is an distance error

Edit:-  Gets more bizarre.  The strava app and the map show the same distance however there are 2 different distances within Fitbit.  4.97  and 5.05.  My target is 5km so once that comes up on the device display I stop however my distance is wrong on the map.
