Swimtag compatibility - or not?!

Hi everyone

I've recently joined Swimtag (a great tracker for swimming) and its website tells me it is compatible with Fitbit. But, Fitbit's website doesn't mention Swimtag as a Compatible App. And for all that my Swimtag profile tells me it is synced with my Fitbit, none of my swims have appeared in my exercise log - I have to enter them manually (such a first world problem!)

Can you tell me if it is compatible, if I'm doing something wrong, or if isn't compatible?

Many thanks

Frerunner

My query is related to Fitbit as a whole, but I've posted it in Flex as that is what I have.

If you write compatible too many times, it looks very wrong.

It is incompatible. (sorry, I counldn't resist).  Wish I had better news.

I don't have swimtag, but no fitbit has swim metrics, and none are approved for swimming (as in they are not rated as waterproof).  You will see some posts on fitbit where people do wear their wrist-based fitbits while swimming  but fitbit does not recommended it.  And I would not expect them to replace a fitbit that has water damage from swimming.

@frerunner if swimtag says they are comparable then someplace on their website, usually in you account settings, there will be a link to connect the two accounts.

I do agree with @Theship someone at the pool will know.

Hi Theship

I just noticed it is now compatible. My latest swim uploaded itself without me even noticing and I felt really hi-tech!

Thank you for your answer too 🙂

I've been using Swimag for a few months and, fed up of manually entering swims, I asked Fitbit support yesterday whether it supported Swimtag.  I found that I could link Swimtag to Fitbit from within the Swimtag App, but there is no compatible Swimtag App available in Fitbit.  The customer support person said it wouldn't work and couldn't help.  I was determined.  I realised that I linked the two Apps yesterday AFTER my swim, so it didn't log it.  Today's swim was automatically logged in my Fitbit App.  All you do is go into the Swimtag App on your phone, tap menu (top left hand) and go to Linked Accounts.  You'll see Fitbit there.  Link to your Fitbit account and that should work.  It worked for me.  Fitbit support PLEASE KNOW THAT IT DOES WORK!

I have a flex2 that is very inaccurate when tracking my swims so I have started using the swimtag system the pool has. Today was the first time it automatically loaded to my fitbit app. However while the swimtag data is correct on their site when it uploaded to my flex2 app it has halved the distance done and incorrectly calculated avg time for 100m.

This has proved my point that the flex2 and its app are seriously flawed when it comes to swimming.

I use Swimtag at my pool.  It works well with my Fitbit App and is very accurate. I don't have a Flex2. I used to use a Poolmate but swimtag is brilliant.

It simply proves one of 2 things @Anne17 you where wearing the Swimtag and the Flex2 at the same time.

Or you haven't set the pool leangth up on the Flex2 yet?

Just like the swim tag, the flex2 has no way of measuring distance in a pool. At best it can count laps, and multiply the lap count by the leangth of the pool.

Hi Rich.   I don't have a Flex2.  Surge and Blaze.  SWIMTAG works just fine for me.

I have just purchased the Flex 2 as my previous Speedo misfit stopped working. this would very accurately count my laps, but I've used the Flex 2 for 2 swim sessions now and it is completely incorrect. 1st swim 50 lengths,, showed 58, 2nd one swam 64 lengths showed 68. So I'm very unhappy at spending the money on it, thinking of sending it back!

but to the point of the thread, my new pool has swimtag, if this is correct and it will sync then if may save the fibit!! LOL

does it show the lengths and distance covered on the fitbit app once sync'd?

Flex 2 is waterproof and is very reliable on length numbers etc, just cant split times and time individual lengths but does plot your overall swim v well

I found Flex 2 inaccurate at first but it seems to "learn" and now its spot on. To fine tune your finish time however its more accurate when you look at the swim graph on a computer rather than the phone app, on the actual fitbit dashboard website you can move the slider to your actual finish time. The fitbit still counts whilst you "float about" at the end.

I'm having a very similar problem as frerunner, the only difference is that I have an Alta HR which is not swimming compatible, could this be the problem for me? As I have tried everything else.

Welcome to the Forums @KProctor. Hello @baglady1208.

Thanks for sharing your experience on the situation and your feedback.

@baglady1208 I'm glad to read that your Flex 2 has gotten more accurate. It seems like you have enjoyed the swim tracking so far. If so, it is really great to hear.

If you have the time, perhaps you could take a moment to visit one of our Discussion boards. Lots of different topics to talk about with other users.

@KProctor In your case, I'd recommend getting in touch with Swimtag directly. These integrations are developed and managed by the third parties themselves so they should be able to take a closer look at what is going on and help you find a solution.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
