Withings Smart Body Analyzer and Fitbit integration.

Hi

I just bought a Withings Smart Body Analyzer and synced it to my Fitbit Account.  So far I have been able to get weight measurements on my Fitbit account.  Is there anything more I can expect from the integration with the Withings Scale?  What's the best I can get our of integrating both?

Thanks!

As a side note, I'm only gettting a one-way transfer from Withings to Fitbit (the weight measurements) but my step count isn't being imported into Withings 😞

You need to ask over at Withings. Fitbit provides an open API that 3rd party developers use to sync data. It is up to them what data they sync and how often as well as what data they share with Fitbit.

I just bought an HR, and frankly, I'd like to see FitBit playing more nicely with others.

I was horrified to discover that they don't even support Apple Healthkit while claiming that their devices are iOS compatible.

I am seriously thinking about returning it.  As much as I like the hardware, I'm not interested in their excuses (which I've now read) for not supporting the heart of one of the two major mobile platforms.

You don't have to return it yet. You can get the Sync Solver App for iOS and it will merge your data with Apple' Health. Here's me current setup & workaround:

My gear : Fitbit Flex + Withings Smart
Body Analyzer + iPhone 5s on iOS 8

- Fitbit for step count / exercise / running log (synced with Withings via Fitbit integration on Fitbit Website)
- Withings Scale & App for weight / BMI / blood pressure (manually entered)
- Intergtation app : Sync Solver & IFF

What happens:
- Fitbit collects my steps, tracks exercise and running, sleep
- Withings collects weight and heart measurements; sends weight to Fitbit
- Sync Solver sends Fitbit information to Apple Health (steps / weight / BMI)
- IFFT automates the sharing

Where I look for activity tracking: Fitbit
Where I look for overall health: Withings App & Apple Health

Hope this helps.
(Withings app can track steps via your iPhone's accelerometer and it's close to Fitbit give or take; but if your phone is not always on you, it won't work)

I'm thinking of buying a Withings clip-on activity tracker and the scales that they give a fancy name to... However, I have several friends on my Fitbit site (just dropped my One for the xxth time and it doesn't work now) and I want to stay in touch with them.  Do you know whether and how to connect the withings activity numbers (esp. steps) and the fitbit app, so that the Withings numbers show up on Fitbit???  Would love to do it this way... any idea if possible?

Thanks, Jim McRae over here near Tokyo

I believe that you can't sync step data collected by Withings with Fitbit. Here's a humble suggestion to consider:

If you experience dropping your activity tracker, try getting a wrist-worn one like the Flex / Charge / Surge. If you'd like seamless data sharing, instead of buying the Withings Smart Body Analyzer, but the Fitbit Aria scale (they're two of the best). That way you get keep your friends, have seamless data, and avoid dropping your tracker.

If you move to Withings altogether, you will get the same seamlssness of data sharing BUT you will not be able to share this with your Fitbit contacts.

In summary, the best is to stick to one "system".  I would have done that had I not found such a gopod deal for the Withings Scale on the second-hand market.

I hope this helps.  Good luck, Jim!

I have a Withings Scale that is about 10 - it gives weight, BMI and fat vs. muscle; however, I don't know if that would even work with a Flex.

Sync Solver is great.. unless you are specifically interested in the Heart Rate information transfering to HealthKit.. sigh..

Hi, This sounds amazingly helpful.  Do you have any tips for the Android user wanting the same thing?
