Whoever thought that making an unannounced change to the way the Fitbit app tracks water consumption would be a good idea is WRONG, in the opinion of both my wife and I. She wears a Luxe, and I have a Versa 4, but the change was made on 3 April 2025. We're in the USA, and measure our consumption in terms of glasses (8 fl oz), bottles (16 fl oz), or a large bottle (24 fl oz). The old system used a picture-based icons of a glass (small container), a bottle (tall container), and the large bottles (a tall container of slighty greater width). And, the best thing about the old tracking system was that it provided a breakdown of your entries (3 bottles plus 1 glass, 2 bottles, followed by 3 glasses), etc.
Using the new system of entry, the units of measure are still a glass (8 oz), a bottle (16 oz), or large bottle (24 oz), arranged in a row format. And, each row has either a + key or - key, and asks you for your consumption, with a starting quantity of zero (0).
"What's the big deal? A different way to enter your consumption should be no big deal" some might say, but my history of water consumption has been ridiculously minimized! Starting from Sunday March 30, I had 3 days of 56 fl ounces of consumption and 1 day of 48 fl ounces. Now, the Fitbit app shows 2 fl ounces of water for the first four days of this week, which is totally wrong!!! And, when I look at my Yearly consumption, on an average per day basis, January through March 2025 have been reduced to 2 fl ounces per day, when it should have been in the range of 48 to 56 fl ounces of water per day.
I'm not going to do anything rash, but since Fitbit has become part of the Google family of products, there were almost daily suggestions to get me to migrate my fitness data from the Fitbit app to the Google Home app. I don't know if Google has ended its patience with holdouts like me, but I don't like when a change is forced on me, with disastrous results to my history.
I would like an explanation as to what has happened to my historical data, for water consumption, and all other measures of fitness. And, I can definitely say that this unannounced change in one area WILL have an impact on my future product purchases. Improvements in product performance is one thing, but unanounced changes are never appreciated, or appropriate.

I agree. This is totally frustrating - the loss or “edited” data as well as the updated manner of data entry. They should not have lost or mangled the history when they made yet another unfriendly update. The previous system was easy and made sense, and you could see the breakdown of your water intake.

Agreed. Have to completed change how I enter data and have lost all of my previous data. Poor system now.

I am very dissatisfied with the change to water tracking. All of my previous entries, for the past 2 years, have been reduced from 60+ ounces/day to less than 2 ounces/day. What gives? I found the tracking feature very useful; it really helped me increase my water intake. I don't use the preset amounts because I don't consume water that way (what adult drinks from an 8 oz. cup?), and Fitbit made it harder to enter custom amounts. This was a completely thoughtless change!
P.S., I've been a Fitbit for 15 years or so, but now that my 2-year old Luxe is dying and there is no new luxe, I'm in the market for a new fitness tracker. I may need to check out Apple. Fitbit keeps making changes that make trackers harder to use and less helpful.

I’m having the same issues with the last update!!! I log water intake in MyNetDiary and it used to upload to my Fitbit Versa 4 app correctly. No matter what I enter, it comes across as either 1 oz, 2 oz, or 3 oz. I delete the incorrect amounts and enter it manually in the Fitbit app, however any time I sync MyNetDiary, amounts go back to the 1,2,3 ozs. When is this going to be fixed?!!! 😡
I just checked my history… everything is gone for me as well!

Crazy that the change happened with no notification to users. My water consumption that has been logged in MyFitness Pal no longer syncs with Fitbit. Just another disappointment with Fitbit. I have been a premium user since 2014. Too many functions listed for Versa 4 have never worked.

It is 4/15/25, 6:02pm. Just got an ‘update your Fitbit’ notification on my Fitbit app on my iPhone. Was hoping it would fix the water consumption logging issue - it did not. Still not logging water correctly from ‘MyNetDiary’ app and also does not retain correct fluid ozs if I enter manually in the Fitbit app. Reverts back to 1, 2. Or 3 ozs. 😡 so disappointed. Also history still not fixed.

I have a different problem. When I moved my account to Google, my water consumption changed to thousands of ounces. I can’t determine how it came up with the amounts because the numbers are completely unrelated to the typical 70 - 80 ounces a day I drink. I’m not going to re-log years of data. What a mess!

The app (apparently) converted my water consumption to milliliters, but it still lists my consumption as fl. oz.
