Missing GPS data after run with Versa 4

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I just went for a run with my Versa 4 (did not bring my phone), now when I look at the activity in the app or on the fitbit dashboard in browser from a computer, I do not get a map, no splits, no elevation. It did sync heart rate, calories, and some basic info like steps, distance, time, etc. Can I get it to sync the map, or is the data just lost now?

There are two possibilities. GPS was disabled in Run settings (Exercise app, Run, swipe up for settings, see if GPS is on) or just didn't connect through entire run. In both cases, the map won't be there and you can't recover it.

During the run, my tracker was showing accurate pace and distance, so it seems that GPS was enabled and connected

@vbaratham distance and pace may not be coming from GPS but be based on inertial sensors and it's not an indication of GPS connection.

Hello @vbaratham and welcome to the Community.  I agree with @Triletics.  It sounds like your GPS didn't connect or you don't have it On for your Run shortcut.  When you choose a GPS enabled activity and the GPS is on, you first see the words 'GPS connecting' with an animated arrow at the top of the screen.  Your Versa 4 vibrates and the message changes to 'GPS connected'.  If you didn't see this on your screen, please do the following to make sure the GPS is on.

  • Short press the button, then choose Exercise to open the Exercise app
  • Select Run
  • Swipe up in the tiny "^" at the bottom of the screen
  • Swipe up until you find GPS and make sure it is toggled to On

Your Fitbit uses a steps x stride length for distance when the GPS is off.  You get the calculated pace and other stats.  In addition, I recommend that you wait until the GPS connects before you tap on that Start arrow and start your run.  It can take several minutes for the GPS to connect.

I’ve had trouble lately getting my Versa 4 to connect to GPS…and dropping the connection…found there is a link with the increase in aurora borealis activity… see this article…https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/impacts/space-weather-and-gps-systems

@LZeeW @Triletics Thanks for the suggestions. I went for another run, confirmed the GPS had connected before I started, and still didn't get a map when the activity was synced. Anything else that might get it working? Everything was fine for a few months until my two most recent runs.
