New notifications on Versa 4 not vibrating watch if prior notification left on screen

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have found that my new Versa 4 will not give me vibration feedback for a new notification if I leave the prior notification on the screen.  My Versa 2 watch works properly and gives this vibration feedback for each an every notification, but the Versa 4 does not in the prior mentioned situation.  I want to be clear, I  do get all notifications, nothing is missing on the watch.  Only the vibration feedback does not happen if a prior notification is left on the screen after looking at it.

If I do not look at the notification on the Versa 4, I do get vibration feedback for all messages received for all three applications that I have checked to receive notifications for (those are:  Whatsapp, Messenger, Messages).   This works properly!

However, the moment I look at a notification on the Versa 4 and leave it on the screen (this is key), the screen will eventually go black, and further new notifications DO NOT vibrate the Versa 4 any further from any of the prior mentioned apps.

In my attempt to solve the problem, I have factory reset the Versa 4 and updated the firmware.  I have cleared the cache and data for the Android Fitbit application and then uninstalled and re-insalled the Fitbit application.   I then added the Versa 4 to the application.  I have given Fitbit application all authorities to every feature it lists in the notification section of Android -- nothing has been denied.  This has not solved my problem.

If I clear the notification by pressing the button on the side of the watch, I once again am able to receive vibration feedback for new notifications.   However, this should not be necessary and is not necessary on my Versa 4.

My phone is Google Pixel 6 and I am running Fitbit application version:  version 3.67.fitbit-mobile.  I am on Android 13 with the September security update.

Please help!  I do like he watch, but this is a bug that needs a quick resolution or I maybe forced to return it.  I can't be dropping vibration notifications for those prior mentioned applications due a prior notification being left on the watch screen.

Hi @skalsky - there seems to be a conflict with open notifications masking operations for other activities, even from the watch face.

Noticed also that a notification doesn't wake the screen, and unless you notice it is there it may sit and block subsequent activities and if you do notice it and the screen blanks it can sit there uncleared for some time.

Make sure that you have vibrate on strong, so less likely to miss it, that you clear it from the screen and when you pull down that neither Sleep nor Don not disturb are engaged.

@Guy_ .

Is this something Fitbit development is aware of?

I'm very surprised I haven't gotten any upvotes.  I verified that sleep and do not disturb are not engaged.  I routinely use all three of these messaging clients all in tandem (Google Messages, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger).  Unfortunately when the problem occurs I do not get a vibration feedback on the watch, so no matter how strong I turn up the vibration, I won't get the vibration.

@skalsky-  this is a users forum - it is supposed to be monitored but we have no way of knowing what is going on.

It is early days for problem reports, and new or old users may not come to the forum just yet as they get used to the new watches..

I ended up returning the watch.  At this point, i do not know if the problems were my phone or the watch.  I got a different watch/different brand, and it also had some notification issues.  Since resetting my phone, the newest watch is issue free.
