Switching to a Google Account

I got a notice to switch to a Google Account. I tried to use the same account that is associated with my android phone, but it said I cannot do that. So I created a new google account and switched to it. It completely "horked" my phone application. Obviously I did something wrong and I do not want to go through that again.

For example, I just got back from a different time zone. On the way out I got the time to sync by rebooting both the device and my phone. This did not work when I got back.

So I de-installed the app and reinstalled it. I reconfigured everything under my fitbit account. My device and the app seem to be working now.

I have a google account that I plan to use solely for the purposes of this exercise. It is NOT the google account associated with the android phone. Is this account what I am supposed to use? How does it "know" about my fitbit account with which I registered?

What steps am I supposed to take to switch to a google account? Will I lose my history data? How does this help me as a customer?

Hi @Dan_NC, thank you for posting in the Fitbit Community ! I hope you are doing well.

Let me help you with the migration of your Fitbit to your Google account.

In order to better understand the issue you are currently experiencing, please specify the reason  you are not able to migrate your Fitbit account to your current google account associated to your Android. Did you receive a message ? Share a screenshot if possible. I appreciate your time in this process.

The time zone is mostly related to your current settings. If you created a new Google account, it may be possible that you need to adjust some details at the beginning.

Usually you should be able to easily migrate your account by following the instructions in our help article How to move a Fitbit Account to a Google Account
