I’ve got a red explanation mark on the Fitbit app on the wallet section so won’t let me add my google wallet

I guess you are talking about an "exclamation mark", please look at the picture below and let me know if this is the icon you are seeing on the app:

In any case, I'd like to suggest checking your device is syncing properly, please click on this link. Once you have done that, you can try to set up your wallet one more time.
