Versa 4 is tracking too many steps

I’ve purchased the versa 4 today and I’m already having issues. I haven’t walked anywhere, but it’s saying I’ve done 18k steps! I’ve removed my phone under the connected devices, but unsure if that’s the issue? Accordingly to my health app (that works with my phone movement) I’ve only walked 5k the entire day and that was at 10am whilst I buying the watch. Really confused as to what’s gone wrong! 😑

Hi there, @Empire_Tetra. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. I'm sorry to hear that your Versa 4 is tracking too many steps. I appreciate you taking the time to troubleshoot this inconvenience before posting here. I understand where your concern is coming from. I will be glad to help you with this!

As a first approach, I'd suggest to confirm that the following are correct in the Fitbit app:

Since we use height to estimate your walking and running stride lengths, you may want to measure and manually adjust these values if your legs are longer or shorter than average. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

Also, please keep in mind that excess vibration might cause extra steps. Fitbit devices have a finely-tuned algorithm for step counting. The algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns. When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps.

Lastly, please note that MobileTrack does affect your step count. Since you've already removed it from your Fitbit account, I'd recommend testing your Versa 4 to see if the issue persists. I will be around if you need further assistance.

My Versa 4 also started adding extra steps. I logged out, deleted app, rebooted iPhone, reinstalled and logged in. Connected to health app, stood & watched the Fitbit app record over 2 million steps! Disconnected it from the health app and Fitbit app is now showing just over 400,000. What in the world is going on?
