Versa 4 won't pair, and won't update. Cannot use it

Ok so I have a Versa 4, it is new and unused. My dad received it last christmas, got frustrated with the setup and stuck it in a drawer for a year, I decided to try and help with the setup now.

The problems:

First problem was that when I tried to set it up on my phone (Nothing 2a, Android 16), it would pair and then say it needed a firmware update, which it would then spend 15 minutes saying "downloading" then restart the watch and be back on the language select screen with zero indication of anything changing.

I spent a while trying this several times, and following other instructions on this forum and elsewhere saying to turn bluetooth off and on again, restarting phone and the watch, reinstalling the fitbit app to make sure it is the most up to date version, and forgetting all other bluetooth things on my phone. Nothing worked.

Second problem: At some point in all these restarts and forgetting/re-connecting, the watch and phone stopped pairing altogether. I "forget" the watch from my phone, then go to re-pair it. I get to the screen where it flashes up the 4 digit number on the watch, input that into my phone, wait 10 seconds then the watch flashes up with "Connected" screen, while g´the phone says "pairing rejected by versa 4" and says pairing is unsuccessful.

There is obviously something connected as if I then go and try and install updates again both the watch and the phone go back to the "downloading" screens, but then fail in the exact same way as the 1st problem, so there must be some connection going on
