Versa 4 won't track my GPS data accurately

I received a fitbit versa 4 as an Xmas present from my daughter this year. I have used a garmin for years so this is the first time using fitbit. When I go for a walk it doesn't record the correct kms, it's always 1.5 to 2km short. When I go for a run using my fitbit it records more kms than I've run.

Has anyone had any of these issues and if so how was it fixed/sorted? Also fitbit app is draining my battery on my Samsung android phone.

As it stands I would never recommend a fitbit unless these issues can be resolved or fixed. I'm told I can't get a refund as the watch was purchased from a store and not directly from fitbit. The store also doesn't give a refund for fitbit devices.

Hi, @Gerbre! Are you tracking using GPS or your stride length? You can set your stride length manually in Settings->Activity & Wellness->Exercise->Stride Length. Fitbit calculates this automatically from your height and uses their estimate to calculate distance if you're not using GPS. I've found this to be pretty inaccurate. The easiest way to figure out your stride is by walking a set distance (say on a track) and counting your steps, then dividing the distance walked by the steps. Hope this helps!

Hi there, @Gerbre. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. It's sad to hear that your Versa 4 is not tracking your distance accurately, I understand how important this data is to you and how you must be feeling by not getting it correctly. We'll be glad to help you with this!

I agree with all the information that @MakMak has shared with you. If you feel that your step count and distance are inaccurate, confirm the following are correct in the Fitbit app:

On a side note, please bear in mind that Fitbit devices use the formula below to calculate distance. Your stride length is determined by your height and sex. Steps x Stride Length = Distance Traveled

Please note when you track an activity with GPS, your device calculates your distance using GPS data rather than steps. If you begin moving before you get a GPS signal, your device calculates distance using your steps until GPS connects.

To update your stride length, track a run with GPS or measure your stride length manually. For more information, see Can I change my stride length in my Fitbit account?

For more information about GPS, see How do I use GPS on my Fitbit device?

Regarding the battery issue, to turn off battery limitations:

  1. Go to Apps Fitbit app Advanced Battery Battery optimization.
  2. Change the view to All apps.
  3. Search for the Fitbit app and choose Not optimized.

For more information, see What should I know about using the Fitbit app on my Android phone?
