I got my versa yesterday evening. I tried immediately to setup. I deleted my AltaHR, restarted the app and followed the instructions. The versa IS sinking to my phone, but it will not get passed 1/3 of the screen while updating the firmware... I have tried on wi-fi and bluetooth. I have even deleted the app. I called fitbit this morning. They didn't have me do anything I hadn't tried. She said I could return it to where I bought it. DUH! I want my versa to work!!! Should I go get another one???

Try these steps to see if it helps
Update by MichiganJeff
1) Restart your device
http://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1186/?q=restart&l=en_US&fs=Search&pn=1
In your smartphone, with your Bluetooth turned off,
1) Go to your Setting >Application Manager > Fitbit App
2) Clear Cache and Clear Data and Uninstall
3) Reinstall the app, and allow the app to turn on your smartphone's Bluetooth when prompted
In your fitbit app, go to your device, and:
1) Turn ON All-Day Sync
2) Turn OFF Always Connected phone support

Sounds like we had the exact same problem, my thread is here. Returned to Fitbit for refund. Second Versa coming today from Amazon. Will update upon setup, or lack thereof.

OK. It is SLOWWWWWWLLLLLLYYYYYY installing via bluetooth. I mean, crawling. Should I leave it or stop it to try what you said?

If the bar is moving leave it alone.
Mine took a while to update.

I'm having issues with this too!
It started the update (eventually, after I had to reset the Versa and reinstall the app on my phone) and the progress bar was showing on the Fitbit. That took around 15 mins, then it stopped, the fitbit vibrated snd its gone. However, for the past hour it's still saying it's updating in the Fitbit app but there's only a grey line at the bottom so I have no idea if it's doing anything? When I try backing out of the app it's saying it's updating. If it is, should it take this long and should that grey bar be showing another colour that's moving?
Honestly, I've had so much hassle with this Versa when it comes to syncing and updating that I want to return it and go back to using my faithful Alta.

@leannes31 I don't know if this will help, but I was having exactly the same problems (Versa SE and phone is Android/Pixel 2 XL).
My watch had the "loading" screen which EVENTUALLY finished, and watch resumed as normal, but the app was stuck on the screen you have pasted here. Closing and reopening the app did nothing, I was completely stuck on that screen, although my watch seemed to be working fine.
I ended up switching my bluetooth off, which made the app report the updated had "failed", waiting a few minutes, and switching bluetooth back on.
From that, I got two results:
1. My Fitbit app is now showing the latest firmware update installed
2. The stupid loading screen went away
Not sure if that will help you, but after hours of the "updating" screen on my phone, I had had enough.

Can anyone tell me what the final solution is? I got the Fitbit versa special edition and I have tried -
Firmware update - stuck versa
updating the Fitbit app on my Samsung S7.
Rebooting the phone.
Rebooting the Fitbit.
Keeping both the phone and Fitbit charged.
Restarting the WiFi and Bluetooth.
It still stays stuck on the firmware update screen. I finally got it to update on Bluetooth very very slowly. The Fitbit still shows “download the Fitbit app”. The phone is pretending to show progress. Not sure if anything is actually happening. Please help.

New Versa and cannot get past the update Firmware screen. It's been updating ALL night, over 12 hrs. I have switched Bluetooth off and on again after rebooting the phone (Sony Z5 Compact). I have disabled the phone Data, leaving just the WIFI enabled and Bluetooth on but still
Personally I'd prefer to disable the WiFi and use my phone direct internet connection, but Fitbit won't allow this for some reason.

I get the exact same issue. This was a present for my 40th, and i've had it 24 hours now and i'm still unable to update the firmware. It's beyond a joke frankly. The app doesn't find my 2.4ghz network, so I can't update via WiFi. I have setup my phone as a hotspot and tried to update that way but everytime it fails after 5 minutes or so. The red bar doesn't even move.
