Device data missing

How can I interpret missing data points in device data using the getDevice call? I know it's not a dead battery, because that shows up as a data point with the battery set as 'Empty', so I'm guessing it's probably sync issues or memory issues? Is there a period in which a dead battery would cause the Fitbit servers to stop syncing with the device?

Do you mean short periods (up to a few minutes) of missing heart-rate data?
