I need sample data. Please auth my app!

The Fitbit API team frequently gets requests for realistic sample data. Unfortunately, we don't have a sandbox environment for you yet. However, I'm happy to authorize your app with one of my test accounts to access my data.

I'm starting this topic for app developers to request people authorize their app. Once you have your OAuth request link live, share it here. I (and hopefully your other friendly third-party developer peers) will authorize your app so that you have some data to play with.

A few guidelines:

  1. Don't post a request until you have your OAuth flow working.
  2. When you no longer need people to test your app, edit your reply to say so.
  3. Be respectful of testers' data. Don't re-share the data. Don't add/delete/edit people's data without their consent.
  4. Consider if you truly need "write" access. Your app can be set to ask for "read-only" or "read and write" access to people's data. You can changing this setting for your app at https://dev.fitbit.com/apps .

Other ways that you can get test data without a Fitbit device:

  1. Create an account without a tracker at https://www.fitbit.com/signup and manually log activities.
  2. If you have a phone with an activity accelerometer, download the Fitbit app and use the MobileTrack feature.

@varundixit Please review the first post. Create your app. When you have an OAuth flow ready, post the link here.

Hi I went through the OAUTH2.0 tutorial and got this in the dialog box for Step 3: Make Request. I think this is the OAUTH Request link you are looking for. Please grant me access to the test data to play around with. Thanks so much!

curl -i -H "Authorization: Bearer eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJleHAiOjE0NjUwNzU2NTYsInNjb3BlcyI6InJ3ZWkgcnBybyByaHIgcmxvYyBybnV0IHJzbGUgcnNldCByYWN0IHJzb2MiLCJzdWIiOiI0TllCTVIiLCJhdWQiOiIyMjdUSDkiLCJpc3MiOiJGaXRiaXQiLCJ0eXAiOiJhY2Nlc3NfdG9rZW4iLCJpYXQiOjE0NjUwNzIwNTZ9.2I6A5o-CxXowxXXIfW77GVui8QT7TOfn6LpdppydSQA" https://api.fitbit.com/1/user/-/profile.json

Visit https://apigee.com/me3/embed/console/fitbit and give it a try.  If you have a fitbit account, sign in and run the method.   The output data is in JSON format.

What kind of sample data (activity, sleep, heart rate, etc.) do you looking for?  And which format (ex. Excel, common delimiter, etc.)?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I setup an oauth2 flow with my app. I should be able to do anything that apigee.com's console can do, but I only have the FitBit phone app. I'm looking to get sleep, heart rate, and weight. Activities too, but I can at least use my own for now if I can't get someone else's.

I'm once again being asked to reach out for sample data. We've determined that we'll be ok with any format, CSV, Excel, etc.

I can provide an export (data dump) of one week data in Excel format.

@RMX You can also try the above suggestion from Jeremiah if you're not able to find data to use.
