I'd like to register an app to test the API for a future project.
I'm uncertain about what is required for the following fields:
Application Website *
Terms Of Service Url *
Privacy Policy Url *
Callback URL *

Hi @melike
Here's the information you need to provide when registering your application.
Application Website: URL that directs users to your application's web site. If you do not have one, your company web site should be sufficient.
Terms Of Service Url: URL pointing to your company's Terms of Service. This will be presented to the user when they grant authorization to share their Fitbit data.
Privacy Policy Url: URL pointing to your company's Privacy Policy. This will be presented to the user when they grant authorization to share their Fitbit data.
Callback URL: The URL to redirect the Fitbit OAuth2 flow back to your application after the user has granted access to share their Fitbit data.
Best AnswerThanks Gordon. So if I'm simply creating a test app and don't have, for instance, a terms of service url, is there a way to complete the fields with 'dummy' input?

For personal use (i.e. personal app type), it should be fine to supply dummy values that resemble URLs. The personal app type will only grant you access to your Fitbit data.
However, if you're creating a client or server type application where you're requesting access to another Fitbit user's data, then you need to provide the appropriate URLs as described.
Best AnswerI bought about 10 Fitbits for my research project and used to connect them via dev.fitbit.com
As of last week Fitbit changed the registration process. Where can I find the 'Register an Application' screen?
Thanks,

Hi @AukeL
To my knowledge, the registration process has not changed. Please go to dev.fitbit.com, click on "Manage" from the top right menu, and select "Register an App".
Once logged in, you should be shown the "Register an application" screen.

Hi @AukeL
I did find out there was an outage recently for dev.fitbit.com, but I believe it was fixed. Would you please confirm whether or not you are still having a problem?

Best AnswerHi Gordon,
We do have a scientific research App running for several year succesfully on the Fitbit platform. Now (af from sept 2026) you will be migrating to Google Cloud we do have a problem with our patients participating in the present study with University Utrecht in the NEtherlands.
We will be executing our present project for the following 3 to 4 years. We have patients included and will include some 200 more. Can we continue with our dev Fitbit registered App?
We still receive intraday HR data and intraday HRV data. Apparently we've lost connection with intraday step and sleep data. Can we reconnect to this data of our patients and new patients to be included too?
