Sleep Stages?

Hi,

If there any way to obtain the different sleep stages from the existing API (REM, Light or Deep Sleep)?

Could you explain in detail what the following information means?

  • sleep/minutesToFallAsleep
  • sleep/minutesAfterWakeup

@FedericoArg Have you looked at the Get Sleep API documentation?

First Fitbit only tracks three states: Sleep, Restless, and Awake. The API returns them as: "1" = "asleep", "2" = "awake", "3" = "really awake".

As far as your other questions the data seems self explanatory... Here is what I think they mean based on how the data is displayed on the web:

minutesToFallAsleep: The time from when the sleep log was started until you fell asleep. (Really only populated if you manually start/stop your sleep event, the automatic logging does really know when you started trying to sleep.)

minutesAfterWakeup: The time from when you woke up until the sleep log was ended. (Probably really only populated if you manually start/stop your sleep event.)

@Michael thanks for your reply. I did look at the documentation but there is no explanation on what each piece of data means. It would be nice if the Fitbit team would actually explain with some detail when and how each piece of information is generated.

As Jawbone (main competitor) is gathering and exposing additional sleep informaton I wanted to check if Fitbit could provide that information or if they had any plans ahead about this.

Thanks!

Federico

Unfortunately for me I can't use most other trackers for sleep because I like new technology (my cell phone is a Samsung Galaxy S6 as of 10/20/2015) and the app for Jawbone Up is not compatable. So, I'm sticking with Fitbit and searching for the thread with the request for them to track the sleep stages. They ability is there...

Something to consider when looking at other trackers if you like new technology and you're looking to track sleep specifically like me. There is literally one compatable with my phone and it's not one with the greatest reviews. 🙂
