I just got a message from Fitbit. It says that to sync my zip Fitbit, I have to have the app running full time on my phone. I don't want to keep the app open on my phone, so what are my other options? None of you're helpful tips give any other options. Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the Forums @rebeldog! Beginning with the release of Android 8.0 (Oreo), Google changed the way you’re notified about apps running in the background on your phone. Now, you’ll receive a Fitbit Sync Service alert on your phone to inform you that the Fitbit app is running in the background.
The Fitbit app runs in the background to keep you connected with certain Fitbit app features such as all-day sync, connected GPS, and receiving notifications from your phone.
If the Fitbit app doesn’t run in the background, you may notice some issues with app features, such as:
If you choose not to run the Fitbit app in the background, you can still manually sync your Fitbit device by opening the Fitbit app. For more information, see How do Fitbit devices sync their data?
I hope this helps, keep me posted! 🙂

I have a Zip so don't need GPS synch. Also, I choose not to have my app all day synch. How do I keep the Fitbit app from sucking down the battery for functions I simply don't want or need?

Thanks for the upddate @rebeldog! Keep in mind that this setting allows your Fitbit device to periodically sync with the Fitbit app and you may notice some issues with app features. To disable All Day sync you need to go to account, then tap the picture of your tracker and scroll down and disable this option.
Catch later! 🙂
