I'm having the same problem. Just got my fitbit zip yesterday as well and noticed that the calorie count for the number of steps is way over inflated. This morning, just reading the paper, etc., I've logged in 802 steps and 500 cals. I checked my entry of weight and height, which are accurate, so the miscalculations are not due to that. Any suggestion on how to reset and get a more accuarate account of calories burned would be appreciated.

Hi there @SunsetRunner and @Bothfeet. Let me give you a warm welcome to our Fitbit Community.
Note that part of your calories are not only coming from your steps or your daily activity. Half of your calories also comes from your BMR.
Your BMR is the rate at which you burn calories as a result of maintaining vital body functions. These functions include breathing and heartbeat and brain activity, among others. Your BMR usually accounts for at least half of the calories you burn in a day. You can also find more information on this post shared by @SebringDon.
Hope it helps and let me know if you have more questions.

Hi there @Bothfeet. Good to see you in the Community! 🙂
To add to what @RobertoME said, your tracker takes all your personal information to determine your calorie burn. This being said, you will see calories burned for previous days because it's showing a projection of the average calories you'd burn based on the information you've entered so this is nothing to worry about. It just means that based on your height, weight, age and gender, you burn at least that amount of calories every day.
Now, based on the previous statement, I would recommend checking your settings on the account section and going to the "Body" section to make sure that you've entered the correct weight and height as erroneous information will cause calculations to be off.
