Lost steps when changed battery

Battery on Zip lasting less than a month.  Just changed battery and lost nearly 5 miles of steps for today.  It started tracking steps from 0 with the new battery.  Is there any way to retrieve the step count for today?

I had the same problem yesterday, I replaced the battery yesterday morning and everything was fine up until 10 pm, the time on the Zip said 5:35 pm. so I changed the battery again and it gave me my steps, I get up at 2 am and the time is still on 11 pm, so I changed the battery again this morning and I had to retrace my steps. this is getting to be a pain.

Welcome to the Forums @CEMC and @justjannie! Notice that data could be lost if your tracker is not synced before replacing the battery. If this was the case you can manually log the missing steps by following the steps described in this post

However, keep in mind that manually logged activities do not count toward challenges; only steps recorded by your tracker or MobileTrack are counted toward challenges.  Also, if you're in a different time zone than the challenge owner, you may notice that your challenge leaderboard stats do not always match your dashboard stats.

Keep me posted! Smiley Wink

Thanks for this information. I have changed the battery numerous times over the last three years without syncing first, and fortunately never lost the current step count data in the process. I assumed that would have been the case with this battery change.

Not sure why the batteries initially lasted for several months and recently need to be changed within a month. Perhaps I need to find a clip on device with a rechargeable battery. This has become a frustrating and costly maintenance item.

Thanks for the advice in solving this issue.

Thanks for the update @CEMC and @justjannie@CEMC If you are having an issue with your battery, I would recommend checking the metal spring inside the Zip's battery compartment. Sometimes your tracker will have battery issues when this is bent. Here is a picture of how it should look like:

@justjannie To avoid losing steps when you change your battery, please make sure to sync before replacing it. And, if after replacing the battery some steps are missing try manually logging it as suggested above.

Catch you later! 🙂

The link doesn't let us go to the page to see how to log steps manually.  It says we don't have permission.  Is there another location to give us the information on how to log steps manually?

there is a spot on the FITBIT dashboard to manually log your steps, I can go back and find out exactly where and let you know

go to your dashboard, and towards the left side bottom there is a box that says "All Day Activity", towards the bottom of that box move your mouse down and it will say MORE- click on that and you should be able to manually put in your minutes and/or exercise

I moved on from the Zip to the rechargeable Alta HR in August 2018. Problem solved! Thanks for your input.
