One step seems to equal 2.04 ft. Can this distance be customized to match the individual owner. My step is 1.87 ft.

You can override the default values in your profile settings at https://www.fitbit.com/settings/profile

 

NB the defaults are based on your gender and height.

 

Note that there are 2 stride lengths: one for when walking and one for when running.
