Zip battery drain

I use a zip so am unable to recharge the battery. Each time I put in a new
battery, it lasts a maximum of 1 month. The present battery was put into
the zip last Monday and by Thursday the zip was indicating that the battery
was almost nil. I followed the suggestions to make sure the toggles were
aligned properly so that the battery sat level and that improved the
battery life a bit but on Tuesday of this week I rec'd another message that
the battery should be replaced.

I found that when I manually sync my Fitbit to phone my battery last a normal period of 6-8 months. When on auto sync my batteries only last 3 weeks to 1 month.

I had the same problems with new battery drain . I read a letter in one of the community answers and tried it. First remove battery and check the small silver connecter charger spring near bottom of zip. I used a small scissors with sharp flat ends . I gently pushed the top & bottom of spring , it should be aligned with white inside the line .  Now use a Qtip & a  Dab of rubbing alchol or hydrogen peroxide , wipe spring , wipe top connector , wipe battery .  Let dry a few seconds , put your new battery that was drained , tap your app to sync your battery .  I did this three days ago , my "drained " new battery is stil FULL  .  Good Luck  Zipping along  Judy

I had problems with the battery drain for about the first week to ten days after I bought it but it seemed to be a teething problem as since then it's been fully charged and still is after three months.

Interesting I always like to try other options also, if the CR 2032 works well great .  Keep us tuned in on how long it lasts. I have been lucky with swabbing  with the back of the  battery with alcohol /perioxide. When I peel the sticker off the battery ..  Ziping along ...

I bought my zip in July. My battery was fine until the last week of August. Then, it drained. I was dissapointed because I read information that stated the zip's battery lasts 6 months. I bought batteries and changed it out. This time, the battery lasted less than a week before dying.
I called fitbit customer support and the man I spoke to did his job well. He figured out it was a problem with my fitbit, not my battery, so he told me that I would be sent a replacement since it was still under warranty. I asked if I could have the cost of a zip applied to the purchase of a one tracker instead, as I like that it is rechargeable and my sister enjoys her alta. He said that it was not possible.
I sincerely wish it had been possible because I am having trouble with my replacement. I put the battery in yesterday and now it says my battery is low! I doubt a brand new battery could be drained in 1 and 1/2 days. It's ridiculous.

My battery doesn't even last 2 months on my zip. It will cost a lot for the year to buy new batteries. I am just using what I have left then I am giving up.

I've burned through several batteries in less than 2 months.  I have turned off the smiley face and the calorie display, and this seems to help.  I started using my latest ZIP on May 30th.  I haven't changed the update mode to manual, that will be my last check.

I'm interested in finding out if the CR-2032 battery would fit properly in the ZIP.  I think it has a higher amp rate than the CR-2025 that comes with the ZIP

I love my zip. It has really helped me see what I need to do to get in shape. I have lost 17 lbs. since April, so I'm really happy withit. Lately, I have had to replace my Zip battery two times, in the last month. I'm not sure what is draining it. Should I have blue tooth on my phone? I also will be trying the paper between the battery and the back. I'm using the battery that the Zip said to use. Thanks for any help.

Hi Rutar50   & BarbMurp1     I find my battery lasts about a month also .  I have had mornings were it tells me battery LOW , I go for my walk anyway , I check my steps after my walk ,  it tells me  battery FULL ?  I put a new battery in Sept 3rd , I have been running on Medium for a few days.  Today is Oct 22nd still medium !

It can be frustrating I know , I do not use the paper ...... I always wipe the back of battery with an alcohol swab it seems to have  worked this time.   I hope you have better luck soon..

Thank you, I have been having this problem again. My battery lasted almost two months. I just replaced my battery yesterday and now it's saying I need to change my battery. I will wipe the battery off and see if that will help. I love my zip and it has helped me to see what I need to do. I've lost 20 lbs since I first started last April. Gradual byt very happy with my progress. Hopefully cleaning the new battery will help. Thank you for anytips.

Good luck!  I purchased batteries for my Zip at the local hardware store (Benny's) and they have lasted for at least 4 months.

@BarbMurp1 @fit-me Welcome to the Fitbit family! The battery on the Fitbit Zip should last around 6 months. The only reason why it may last less than that is the constant tapping of its display. That may cause the battery to last around 4 months.

If it lasts less than that, you can try @fit-me's workaround about wiping the battery with alcohol to see if that will do the trick. If still nothing, please report this to customer support to get further assistance.

@bobren110 I hope you're doing well! Thanks for sharing that information, I'm sure this will be helpful for other users as well!

Keep me posted! Smiley Happy

My advice is don't buy the fitbit zip.
My replacement zip had the same issues. It ate batteries and didn't last as long as the original zip. I gave up on the zip and did not bother contacting customer support again.

I purchased a fitbit charge and it's lasted a year and 3 months so far.

Thank you for your tip . It seems my replacement Zip is working well ,most batteries last about  six weeks , not bad.. I was thinking of updating to a fitbit charge or another form .  Returning from another trip , my fitbit Zip is on me ready to go.  While awaiting  for my iPad & iPhone to charge I don't need another thing to be charging ..   Perhaps in future I will buy one ...Keep running  Cheers  !

I agree. My Zip was only lasting 6 to 8 weeks so It was retired when I inherited a Charge.  Unfortunately, the Charge band separated from the body and had to be taped.  I called customer support for suggestions on repair but came away empty.  An e-mail from customer support to follow-up on the call wanted assurance that my call provided all the required information.  I answered "no" and asked again if I could apply super glue on the band.  No response.  I came across a great sale and my wife and I bought charge 2s.  No problems yet.  Much better design than Charge and no batteries to replace every 6 weeks!
