Zip won't connect to my Android phone

I go through the new device setup on my android phone in the Fitbit app, the app finds the Zip and a pairing code shows up on the Zip. When I enter the pairing code on the phone the Zip display goes blank briefly, then flashes the version number (5.72) and the face appears.  App is connecting before saying "Sorry, the setup is taking longer than usual" before failing to pair.

Multiple phone restarts, battery removal from Zip, and still nothing.  Any suggestions?
